Macrame, A New Pastime

Life is certainly full of twists, turns and surprises. This COVID-19 pandemic has been a rollercoaster of emotions, and I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that it’s served us some unforeseen challenges and tears. However, I am delighted at the massive shift it has brought our family reshaping our perspective and priorities. While we are soaking in the time together, I am equally thriving on finally carving out some time for myself. Bringing it back to my favorite era, the 70’s, I finally tackled my longing desire to learn the craft of macrame.

Macrame projects flooded my Pinterest board, but I got intimated with all the types of knots, overwhelmed on where to start, and overanalyzed which project to do first. Then, I stumbled across another photographer friend who posted an adorable rainbow macrame project she crafted – all apparently from a kit she purchased and Zoom workshop. That was the ticket! I immediately contacted Love and Create and the rest is history.

I made a rainbow for our home, one for my mother for Mother’s Day, and one for each of my two kids. Lori from Love and Create is beyond the sweetest and gave me the skill and confidence to dive in further! In addition to her rainbow kits, she’s been holding a weekly complimentary Macrame Monday workshop with so many cute project ideas! I can’t thank her enough for “teaching me the ropes!” On her Macrame Monday workshops, we’ve created coasters, keychains, vase decor, and a planter holder! She still has more in store too, so be sure to check out her website and snag your spot for a class!

For my grand finale thus far, I even created a giant wall hanging from a piece of drift wood I had collected with the kids last year in Laguna Beach. Hanging all these macrame projects throughout our home not only instills pride of accomplishment, but serves as a nostalgic component to remember this sweet and fragile time. I hope this inspired you to carve out some time for yourself during these uncertain times to have fun and get creative!
